Vilangudi V.Sivakumar was born on 27.02.1966 to Sri. N.Viswanathan and Smt.V.Jayalakshmi . His two sons are also closely associated with classical music with his elder son S.Srikrishnan learning Violin from Prof. T.N.Krishnan and the younger S. Sridharan learning Mridangam from his father himself.
Vilangudi V.Sivakumar (B.Com Graduate) started learning mridangam from S.R. Jayaraman initially for 3 years and was later associated with the legend from Kumbakonam Sri. M.Rajappa Iyer who was himself the Guru of S.R Jayaraman and had undergone learning for 5 years. He started performing for Vocal and instrumental concerts and Bhajans from the age of 10. He is an approved All India Radio Artiste and has been performing several concerts in AIR and many leading Sabhas. V.Sivakumar keenly observed his Guru’s formulation and unique structure of percussion lessons, innovated techniques and incorporated his own style of fingering for the benefit of learners of Mridangam.
